Hugh Blackwell
Principal Officer
As Principal Officer, Hugh is responsible for the overall growth and profitability of BDE. After fourteen consecutive years of driving revenue growth for Fortune 500 companies Siemens and Schneider Electric, Hugh would venture out on his own to start BDE in 2016. Hugh started BDE with a strong background in electrical distribution equipment engineering and management, along with a penchant for top line growth and cost control discipline, Obtaining and growing a customer base in the DC/Baltimore Metro and Louisiana regions, BDE has blossomed into a multimillion dollar revenue business with a significant physical footprint within 5 years of inception. Hugh is married to Jimani and has three children, Hugh III, Purpose, and Miles. Hugh has a BS from Howard University and a MBA from George Mason University.
Chad Risher
Chief Sales Officer
As Chief Sales Officer, Chad is responsible for customer acquisition, vendor management, and profit attainment in the traffic and lighting sector for BDE. Chad came to BDE with a strong background in customer relationship management and entrepreneurship from his time at Risher Business Consultants. Chad has primarily developed BDE’s traffic sector into a self-sustaining profit center, implementing a sales method revolving around building relationships with world-class vendors and high-performing contractors. Throughout his career, Chad has been a collaborative team leader and detailed oriented contributor. Chad is married to Rebecca and has one child, Knox. Chad has an Associate’s degree from Baton Rouge Community College.
Brian Williamson
Chief Financial Officer
Brian Williamson joined Blackstar Diversified Enterprises, LLC (BDE) as the Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining BDE, Brian was a Senior Director for S&P Global Ratings. Brian’s primary role over his twenty years at S&P as a municipal bond analyst was focusing on analyzing the strategies and financial operations of large hospitals, health systems and continuing care retirement communities across the United States. Prior to joining S&P, Brian was employed as a commercial lender for large US banks and commercial finance companies. Throughout his career, Brian has been a collaborative team leader and detailed oriented contributor. Brian is married to DaWana and has two children, Bria and Jakahri. Brian received his BS in Accounting from Hampton University and MBA in Finance from The Ohio State University.
Calvin Thomas
Executive Project Manager
As Executive Project Manager, Calvin is responsible for the development, management, and maintenance of the processes and systems for Project Management at BDE. Calvin has over 20 years of industry experience and 12 years of project management experience, having responsibility over projects in the DC Metro area and Florida markets, as well as international project experience while serving in the role of American Marine Tender Manager and having to manage and coordinate aspects in France and the Caribbean. Calvin has a military background, serving six years in the US Naval Nuclear
Sector. Trained as a nuclear plant electrician in the military, Calvin
went on to complete his bachelor’s in Nuclear Engineering Technology
from Excelsior College. Calvin has been married for 19 years to Doris,
his high school sweetheart, and together they have three children:
Cassandra, Joseph, and Reuben.
Mercedes Smith
Executive Operations Lead
Mercedes Smith serves as the Executive Operations Lead for Blackstar Diversified Enterprises. Embarking on an extraordinary journey as a Coordinator and HR Administrator for Birthmark Doula Collective, Mercedes has blossomed into an influential figure, leaving a lasting impact in her field. Throughout her career, Mercedes has consistently demonstrated exceptional organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for fostering a positive work environment. Her ability to streamline operations, implement innovative strategies, and drive efficiencies has propelled her to the forefront of her field.
In her current role at Blackstar Diversified Enterprises, Mercedes plays a pivotal role in overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations. Her insightful decision-making, strong leadership, and effective communication skills have been instrumental in driving the company’s growth and success.
In addition to her successful career, Mercedes deeply values her responsibilities as a spouse and parent. She is happily married to Kamau Smith. Together, they have built a loving and nurturing home for their three children, Phoebe, Jair, and Kahron.
Matt Fortajada
Contractor Assistant Project Manager
Matthew Mike Fortajada, known affectionately as Matt, serves as the Assistant Project Manager at Blackstar Diversified Enterprise. With a robust background in project management, Matt brings a wealth of experience to his role. Previously, he managed projects and programs at Nestle Philippines, collaborating closely with customers, clients, and vendors to ensure successful outcomes.
Matt’s professional journey extends to various industries, including SEO, startups, and banking and financial companies in the US. Renowned for his ability to forge strong personal relationships with stakeholders, Matt excels in communication and rapport-building. He possesses a knack for drafting meticulous plans to facilitate the seamless execution of projects.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Matt finds joy in exploring other places alongside his beloved partner, Bhey. They share a passion for travel, immersing themselves in diverse cultures, sampling local cuisine, and discovering hidden gems in their adventures.
Sam Estoperez
Contractor Assistant Project Manager
Sam Estoperez is an accomplished Assistant Project Manager with expertise in technical management and project execution. With a background in electrical engineering and construction projects, Sam navigates complexities seamlessly, from preparing submittals to interpreting technical drawings with precision.
Her forte lies in client communication, ensuring needs are met while maintaining a high standard of service. Beyond work, Sam finds inspiration in nature, reflecting a balanced lifestyle that fuels her passion for both personal and professional growth.
Romeilyn Halog-Vino
Contractor Assistant Project Manager & Social Media Specialist
Hi, I’m Mei, and I’m proud to wear two hats at Blackstar Diversified Enterprises. As an Assistant Project Manager, I work behind the scenes to help keep our projects organized and running smoothly, ensuring we deliver the best results for our clients.
On the creative side, I also handle our social media. From crafting posts to engaging with our online community, I love showcasing what makes BDE stand out and helping our brand connect with people in meaningful ways.
Balancing these roles keeps me on my toes, but I enjoy every moment of it! Outside of work, I’m always looking for ways to grow, stay inspired, and find creative solutions to challenges.
Matthew Marcelle
Building Maintenance Specialist
Matthew serves as a Building Maintenance Specialist at Blackstar Diversified Enterprises (BDE), leveraging over 25 years of experience in residential construction to ensure the seamless upkeep and functionality of the company’s facilities. Prior to joining BDE, Matthew owned and operated Superior Finishes LLC, where he specialized in improving living conditions for residents across the greater New Orleans area.With expertise in carpentry, plumbing, and landscaping, Matthew has developed a reputation for quality craftsmanship and a solutions-oriented approach. His commitment to safety and professional excellence is reflected in his certifications, including OSHA 10, Forklift, and NCCER certifications. Beyond his professional life, Matthew has been happily married to Raquel for 22 years. Together, they have built a loving home and raised four children: Brittany, Troy, Mia, and Matthew Jr. In his role at BDE, Matthew continues to combine technical expertise with a dedication to community and family.
Angelo Cabiles
Inside Sales Associate
Angelo Cabiles is a results-driven professional with expertise in customer service, data enrichment, lead generation, and sales. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and has contributed to research initiatives, including Optimization on Fish Delivery Through Transportation Model and Commercialization of Drainage Inspection Services Using Drainage Probe Robot.
With a background in real estate and life insurance sales, Angelo possesses excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. His ability to work independently and collaboratively makes him an asset in fast-paced environments. Currently, he is exploring opportunities in virtual assistance, inside sales, and bid specialization, aiming to leverage his experience in sales, client engagement, and market research.
Angelo is committed to continuous learning and professional growth, with a long-term goal of establishing his own business. He actively engages in strategic thinking, enjoys intellectual pursuits like chess, and follows developments in esports and traditional sports.
Josue Casuncad II
Inside Sales Associate
Josue Casuncad II works as Inside Sales Associate at Blackstar Diversified Enterprises. He brings with him a total of 10 years work experience in the industry. Throughout his tenure, he worked as a Process Executive, Customer Support, Insurance Specialist and Sales Representative in reputable companies allowing him to gain high-powered skills.
His diverse experience also enabled him to be competitive on what he does and focused on delivering high quality results. One of his core values is respect. He is one to promote positive work culture by exhibiting respect towards his peers and towards the people he works with.
Beyond work, he likes to spend quality time with his fiancé, Nona. They both share the same interest for travelling and enjoying the beauty of nature, exploring different cuisines, and ultimately creating new experiences together.
