Maryland SHA – AI-Based Traffic Detection & Corridor Flow Stabilization Upgrade

In response to the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, Blackstar Diversified Enterprises ® supported rapid modernization of traffic detection infrastructure along Ritchie Highway and surrounding detour corridors in Maryland.

Legacy video-only detection systems were experiencing missed calls and reliability limitations under significantly increased traffic volume. Blackstar collaborated with McLean and deployed the NoTraffic AI Mobility Platform to digitize intersections and improve real-time detection accuracy.

The upgrade was focused on stabilizing regional traffic flow under emergency diversion conditions.

Deployment included Radar + Vision fusion sensors mounted to existing mast arms, enabling plug-and-play integration without trenching or major civil modification. By providing accurate detection data to existing signal controllers, the system reduced false calls and improved intersection efficiency during peak diversion traffic.

The project highlights Blackstar’s ability to integrate advanced mobility platforms within existing infrastructure under accelerated timelines.
