LSU Corridor – Intelligent Pedestrian Safety & Traffic Signal Modernization

Blackstar Diversified Enterprises ® partnered with LSU to enhance pedestrian safety along the Skip Bertman Drive corridor, a high-traffic campus route connecting athletic and academic facilities.

The initiative was developed in response to documented pedestrian-related incidents and increasing vehicular congestion across the corridor. Blackstar collaborated with J&W Contractors to deploy an integrated pedestrian safety system designed to improve driver awareness and pedestrian visibility without disrupting existing traffic flow.

The solution combined detection, active warning, and visibility enhancements to modernize the corridor’s safety infrastructure.

Deployment included TraffiCalm Intelligent Warning Systems, radar speed feedback signs, Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), high-visibility signage, and audible pedestrian pushbuttons. The integrated system enhances intersection awareness while maintaining compatibility with existing signal infrastructure.

Since deployment, no reported pedestrian-related incidents have occurred within the enhanced zone.
